Facilities

The Department of Nutritional Sciences is home to facilities that support innovative research, experiential learning, and collaboration across the health sciences. Through laboratory-based instruction and research experiences, students gain hands-on exposure to the scientific methods and technologies used to study nutrition and human health for high-potential careers across sectors. These facilities provide opportunities for students and faculty to work together on discoveries that advance nutrition science and improve health outcomes. 



Echo MRI machine

Metabolic Phenotyping Facility 

This facility supports researchers across UConn with highly precise assessment of the metabolic activity of cells, body composition of mice, clinical chemistry in human and animal blood, and more. 

Foods Laboratory 

This laboratory provides a state-of-the-art teaching facility for quantity food preparation, food science, experimental foods, and food composition analysis.

Human Intervention Laboratory 

This facility houses the equipment and supplies necessary for clinical assessments, phlebotomy, diet analyses, and anthropometric measurements. The suite also features a dedicated private room for participant screening, consenting, and interviews. 

Advanced Technology Laboratory 

The Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) and the Agricultural Biotechnology Laboratory (ABL) form UConn’s Bioscience Complex (BSC). The ATL building serves as a core research hub for the Department of Nutritional Sciences. In addition to faculty lab space, the facility includes a shared tissue culture suite fully equipped for storing, culturing, and documenting multiple cell lines. The adjacent ABL building features an animal research vivarium utilized by faculty across Nutritional Sciences and other departments.
