
Extension and Outreach
UConn Extension is a statewide educational outreach system that connects UConn’s research with Connecticut residents, organizations, and communities. Through nutrition education, community partnerships, and evidence-based outreach programs, the Department of Nutritional Sciences helps individuals and families make informed decisions that support lifelong health and wellness. These efforts advance the university’s land-grant mission while improving quality of life across Connecticut.
Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program
Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) helps families learn about healthy eating, shopping on a budget, cooking and physical activity. Through support from USDA-NIFA, EFNEP empowers participants learn through doing, with cooking, physical activity, and supportive discussions about nutrition and healthy habits. The program is led by peer educators in a series format, with evidence-based material, consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPlate.
